A detailed market analysis and independent review of the user experience
Advice and collaboration with responsible departments on concept development and implementation plan based on research findings.
The hotel is part of a major development project situated in one of the four skiing locations in Niseko and is targeted to become the most luxurious accommodation in the area. A challenge common to all resorts in Niseko is their dependence on the ‘White’ season and one objective was to evaluate the feasibility of operating the hotel during the ‘Green’ season and hence transforming the resort into an ‘all-season’ destination.
Given the location’s potential for rapid future expansion, our research identified affluent Asian families and tourists as likely customers for the resort. As such, we devised a new positioning strategy to specifically cater for this market during both the ‘Green’ and ‘White’ seasons.
User Experience Review:
Based on the target customers’ key considerations and spending behaviours we conducted a user experience study into the following areas:
Interior and Exterior Designs and Functionality
Recreational Activities and Facilities
Room Types and Designs
FF&E and Material
Following our research, Lifestyle Federation was retained to advise the relevant teams during concept development and implementation stages.
Based on our results, we recommended that the project leaders incorporate additional facilities as well as modify room types and design to better suit the target customers’ needs. For instance, one of the customer’s key considerations regarding room facilities was comfort and convenience after skiing. As such, we suggested building in two bathrooms with showering facilities in each room.
Aside from concept reviews and advice, we assisted the project team, interior designer, architect, and the sales and marketing team, suggesting implementation plans helping bring our recommendations to fruition.
